We are in the artist’s Moscow studio…..
Mochalov’s paintings, true masterpieces, recall the frailty of our existence, the long centuries during which mankind has strived to create beauty. In the words of the great Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect and poet Michelangelo Buonarotti:
“Art can outlive the artist.
The artist passes on, conquered by nature
But his creation will fill our hearts with inspiration through the ages”.

Vladimir Mochalov:
I was born in Moscow. As a small child, leafing through the dusty pages of an old “Krokodil” magazine I had found in the attic of our old building, I realized that I wanted to be an artist. By strange coincidence, our building later became the site of the Moscow Union of Artists.

Life has presented me with some difficult choices. I was an engraver at “Gosznak” the State Mint, where I was meant to become Chief Artist. But caricature cut across that path, and changed my life completely. In time, however, I did become Chief Artist - not at “Gosznak”, but at the unique humorist magazine “Krokodil”.

Irony is the prism through which I look at the world. Self-irony is my self-defence.

I am fortunate, because my hobby is also my profession. Most of all, I love painting, in particular landscapes. I am now creating a series inspired by raindrops. The technique I use is complex and demands both concentration and inspiration, so I am happy when I succeed. I thank the Lord for granting me talent, insight, the joy of artistic expression and for being able to see with my eyes and my heart that which I try to show you in my paintings, dear friends!

The wise Michelangelo was right when he said that Art can outlive the Artist. I could add that through my art, with my cold drops of rain, I try to warm your hearts! I would be very happy if my work found a place in your collection. - Vaenus You Met Me at a Strange Time in my Life
