The people of Merania, a tiny Latin American state, could confirm the truth of this aphorism... If it wasn't for the fact that the genius, fanatic and crook in their case was one and the same person - General Alberto Martinez, nowadays more widely known as the Dictator. His entire life has been a confirmation of an old truth - that power belongs to those who can hold on to it.

Boiling Point

Only one circumstance prevented Merania from getting lost among the banana republics and cardboard kingdoms that surrounded it. It's soil was rich in rithanium - a unique material used in the energy sector. Exports of this natural resource have been the main source of state income in Merania, but all the profits from its sale went into the pockets of the ruling elite.

The despotism of the authorities and the rampant crime resulted in a number of uprisings. Although initially, the unrest was spontaneous, soon a person emerged who was able to channel the revolution in the desired direction. This was Alberto Martinez - a disgraced general, nursing a long-held hatred for the ruling dynasty of Merania. Playing on the ambitions of the military officials and the anger of ordinary citizens, Martinez liberally made promises and spoke eloquently about a bright future.

Dictator's Iron Fist

The revolution was practically bloodless - almost the entire population of Merania, tired of the rampant lawlessness in the country, came out on the side of the General. However, as was to be expected, strong power turned out to be worse than weak. Alberto now known as the Dictator, with the loyal support of the army, quickly established an iron rule, abolishing many civil rights and reducing most of the population to the status of slaves. One of his aims was to increase rithanium production and processing. The Dictator set a task for the army's scientists - to create a weapon of mass destruction based on this mineral. Alberto plans to use this to threaten neighbouring states.

Freedom or death!

Only two organizations have been able to challenge the Dictator. The first of these was the Scarlet Alliance, founded by Ernesto Scarone, a former associate of Martinez. Scarone, also known as the Commandant, was once the right hand of the current Dictator, and shared his views concerning the need to overthrow the monarchy. But their paths were soon to diverge, and in the end the Commandant headed a new uprising. His fighters are idealists, fighting in the name of freedom. They have the support of the population and are spurred on by the righteousness of their cause.

At the same time, outside the country the Crown Coalition founded by Francesco Ventry, the nephew of the exiled king of Merania, was gaining strength. Francesco, better knows as the Baron, built his own financial empire back in the days when his uncle was in power. The revolution did not touch his assets held in foreign banks, but it did cut off his access to rithanium - the source of Ventry's power. The Baron plans to reclaim his birthright, and will not let anything stop him. He has an army of experienced mercenaries and the latest weaponry at his disposal.

The Commandant and the Baron will never join forces, even against a common enemy - their ideals are too different. Merania can expect another wave of civil war. Who will gain the upper hand? The answer to this question will be written in blood and steel.
