Red Bull Racers is a free racing game and the new app from Red Bull Media House. With the Red Bull Kart Fighter-series the energy drink manufacturer has already gained racing game experience, furthermore Red Bull Kart Fighter 3 has also become a really good game. Red Bull Racers differs in several ways from the Kart Fighter series. First, Red Bull Racers is a freemium game, that means you can download and play it for free but you have to live with InApp purchases. On the other hand, Red Bull Racers is not a classic racing game, but a slot racer like Rail Racing by Polarbit which was published a few weeks ago.

Red Bull Racers is a Slot Racer, that means that the whole gameplay reminds of a Carrera track. You race with your vehicle on rail tracks and you simply need to push the accelerate-button. Just like on a real Carrera track you should respect the curves and lift your gas finger so that you don't fly off the track. A small blue bar above your vehicles indicate if you have the right speed for the next curve. The bar will turn red when you are too quick. With another button you can change the rail at the next crossover. You should take advantage of this lane change to choose the inner side of the curves to save time. Or to evade enemies or to push them off the track. But beware, your opponents will do the same with you. The game promises a lot of variety. So you don't only get spectacular tracks with jumps, steep banks and loops - you are also allowed to place yourself in a kart, a rally racer and a Formula 1 car. However, you can not play all classes right at the beginning of the game, you will release them the further you get.

To successfully play Red Bull Racers you should at least reach the podium. But this is easier said than done, especially at the beginning of the game. One first needs to get used to the correct timing of acceleration and braking and you need a pimped car.
And for a pimped car you need the in-game currencies of the game. Red Bull Racers offers you coins and diamonds. You can earn coins right on the track. With coins you can upgrade your vehicle and buy boosts before each race. This boosts can give you a better indication when to accelerate and when to brake on the track or they can give you an automatic braking assistance for example. Some boosts can only be purchased with diamonds. Diamonds are also needed to purchase new vehicles or to unlock more content at an earlier stage. But diamons are rare in Red Bull Racers. You only get diamonds at level increases and by completing certain missions. With diamonds you can also recharge your energy. Because: If your energy is at the end, you have to wait quite a while until you can continue playing.

Red Bull Racers has undoubtedly a lot to offer. The scope is huge, the game features lots of variety and the graphics look really good. In addition, the title offers different camera angles, so you can you choose your desired perspective. Still, I'm disappointed by Red Bull Racers. This is due to several factors. First: My expectations after the amazing Red Bull Kart Fighter 3 were very high. Unfortunately, Red Bull Racers can't live up to these expectations. Red Bull Racers is easily accessible due to the simple control, thats correct. But nevertheless it is a difficult game right from the start. It is anything but easy to catch the right points to accelerate or to brake, because the speed of the game is so fast. In addition, if you don't have a tuned car you won't have a chance against the strong computer opponents, which is quite frustrating especially at the beginning of the game. After a few drives you start to like the game more and more - but then you will be faced with the strong freemium-limitations. It's very hard to master Red Bull Racers without any InApp-purchases.
