There where art and craftsmanship meets fine horology true beauty is created! A collaboration between watch designer Yvan Arpa CEO of ArtyA and Master-Engraver Bram Ramon.
The Artya Golden dragon piece unique is a true treat for the eye! More then 200 hours of work went into the dial and the bezel alone!! This hole process can be seen on video.
Every thing starts with an idea from there to the drawing board to draw and redraw, till everything is in harmony. Like in most of his creations Bram went for Neo-Renaissance ornaments a northern European style which dates back to the 19th century with his personal touch. We see fine elegant symmetrical ornaments that turn around the tourbillon cage and create the frame for the golden dragon.
Once transferred the drawing to the dial the actual engraving can start, first the background is cut away deep and clean, then the 3d sculpting ore carving begins one of the most difficult and time consuming techniques known in the world of high-end hand engraving all executed under a stereo microscope.
For the dragon we took a flat piece of solid gold cut it out and completely carved out the dragon with small chisels then he inlays the dragon in the ornamental frame to complete the dial.
The bezel also is fully sculpted by hand and here the background is inlayed with 24K gold.
For Bram this was one of the most difficult and challenging engravings he has ever done but for him ”working together with one of the coolest watch designers in the world Yvan Arpa is just fantastic, I look forward to continue this voyage with ArtyA”
Yvan wanted to have a dial with a dragon for one of his unique tourbillons long time ago, he had to wait a long time to! But seeing the result now we can only be blown away by the craftsmanship and the passion of both men and their desire to offer the very best of both worlds!
