Истреби́тель пя́того поколе́ния — новое поколение истребителей, представители которого уже имеются на вооружении в США и находятся на этапе летных испытаний в России. В СССР и США поиски облика истребителя пятого поколения начались в середине 70-х годов, когда машины четвертого поколения — такие как Су-27, МиГ-29, F-14 и F-15 — ещё только делали первые шаги. К работе были привлечены ведущие отраслевые научные центры и ОКБ.

В настоящее время, единственным принятым на вооружение истребителем 5-го поколения является F-22 Raptor. Лётные испытания проходят ещё два истребителя 5-го поколения: F-35 США и ПАК ФА Россия, которые, вероятно, в ближайшее время будут приняты на вооружение.
Aircraft classified as fifth generation jet fighters.These aircraft combine high-performance airframes, internally carried advanced air-to-air, and air-to-ground weapons, all aspect stealth, Low Probability of Intercept Radar LPIR, and networks for shared situation awareness. Their advanced highly integrated avionics systems, with on and off-board sensor fusion, free pilots to focus on the task, rather than the different systems that generate the information.

Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is personally overseeing the country's efforts to create one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world. He stopped by the Zhukovsky airfield outside Moscow to watch a test flight of the Sukhoi T-50 jet. The plane features an array of technical and design innovations. Sukhoi, the company behind it, says it'll be a few more years before the fifth-generation jet is ready for mass production.
